What is a fire escape window?

Fire escape windows are specialized fire rated windows designed to provide a safe and efficient means of exiting a building in the event of a fire or other emergency. These windows are an integral part of a building's fire escape route, ensuring that occupants can quickly and safely evacuate a building while using their steel fire escape stairs.

Emergency Exits

Fire escape windows serve as emergency exit doors, allowing building occupants to exit quickly during an emergency, such as a fire or other hazardous situation.

These windows are often located in residential units giving them proper access to fire escapes or other external exit passages.

ULC Fire Resistance

Fire escape windows are designed to be fire-resistant to a specific rating (ex: 45, 60, 90, or 120 minutes) and are ULC Certified.

They are also equipped with Georgian wire glass to adhere to Fire Codes.

Self Closing

Fire escape windows are usually equipped with ULC certified self-closing mechanisms (door closers) to ensure that the doors close securely after they have been opened. This helps prevent fire and smoke from entering the escape route.

Minimum requirements for installation:

Clear Opening Width: 2'
Clear Opening Height: 3'6"
Max height off floor: 3'4"
